BMW E30 E23 E24 E28 E36 Clutch type Limited Slip Differential LSD 188mm Spool
BMW Medium Case 188mm Limited Slip Spool - E36 Type. This is a used and in good condition limited slip spool removed from an E36 325i. Fits most 6-cylinder (and 8 cyl) BMWs of the'70's, 80's, and'90s (E23, E24, E28, E30, E32, E34, and E36 medium case differentials). The spool is in very good condition, with no corrosion or damage. The E36 spool is slightly different, and better than the E30 and E32/E34 spools BMW made, in that these spools have larger openings for diff oil to penetrate, cool, and lubricate the clutches and spider gears. These are photos of the last unit I had for sale. The current unit looks identical. This clutch type limited slip assembly is necessary to convert a non-LS differential into a limited slip differential.
I recommend that a rear end specialist do the conversion, but it is not too difficult and a competent shade tree mechanic can complete the conversion. Just take out the open spool, remove the ring gear, install the ring gear on this LS spool, reassemble, and you have yourself a limited slip. No special setup required, but make sure everything is clean before installing the rear cover. Fits 3.15 and shorter gears from the'80s and'90s, including E36 325i/S 3.15:1 ratio open diffs.
May not fit 3.07 and taller gears from "eta"type differentials. BMW stopped installing LSDs in non-M cars in the late'90s, so here is your chance to obtain what seems to be a very rare item.
